A bit about me

Coach and Facilitator Joanne Appleton standing in a field smiling at the camera.

As an coach I enjoy working with individuals and teams from all walks of life and backgrounds. I am also an experienced facilitator with a background in quality improvement and managing large scale change. My passion is to be a ‘catalyst’, helping people to define their vision and work out the steps to achieve it.

A physiotherapist by background, I worked for the NHS before moving into freelance writing when my children were young. This developed into a ten-year career in marketing, communications and partnership development. I worked for a college who trained people from around the world to work cross-culturally, which gave me a deep understanding of the UK and international VCFSE (voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise) sector.

During this time I also took part in collaborative learning communities involving large churches across Europe, and completed a Masters with modules on organisational development and cultural change, global leadership and intercultural studies.

Back in the NHS, I managed a wide variety of projects and programmes at primary care, Integrated Care Board and regional level. In March 2025, I left my senior management role in NHS England South West and moved to the Roseland Penninusla in Cornwall.

I am now fully freelance and enjoy working with a variety of clients from charity-based teams, to small business owners and people working in health and care. I am part of a group developing the use of ‘Clean Language’ in healthcare, and a facilitator with the General Practice Improvement Programme.

I am a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and an EMCC Accredited Coach at Practitioner level. I subscribe to the EMCC Global Code of Ethics

My coaching qualifications include an Advanced Certificate in Executive Coaching, and Institute of Leadership Senior Practitioner, Coaching/ Mentoring Level 7
